God's attitude towards homosexuality.
Is it OK to be Gay? Fifty years ago this question would have seemed absurd to most people. The obvious answer of no was the resounding answer by the majority of people in this country. Today more and more people are answering yes while the influence of those who support Gay rights are becoming increasingly prevalent. This is especially evident in the media. With the popularity of lesbian morning talk show host Ellen and the recent publicity of the movie "Broke Back Mountain," and TV show "Quire Eye for a Straight Guy," it is unmistakable that Homosexuality is being accepted by more people in this country than ever.
While there are still more who do not agree with the lifestyle those who promote it are getting the message that it is OK out there in major ways. There has never been so many what could be called "Gay rights plugs" or promotional spots on movies and TV shows than in the past ten years. Shows and movies such as "Will and Grace," "The Family Stone," "Must Love Dogs," "V for Vendetta" among others picture the "alternate lifestyle" as a healthy, acceptable lifestyle that is a result of being born that way. This is becoming a popular way of justifying this sin but has never been scientifically proven. The truth is it does not matter what the popular belief system is or what the majority of people believe. The only thing that matters is what God's attitude is toward homosexuality and what His word says about it.
We need to make sure that we know what God's attitude toward homosexuality is and that His word assures us that it is not natural. People are not born with it. No matter what the world says being homosexual is not how God made anyone to be. Genesis 2:24 says, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." God created man to be with woman, their bodies, God created to fit together and to reproduce. (Genesis 9:7) This is how God created us and he does not approve of homosexuality. He considers it a sin and it will separate us and bring spiritual death just like any other sin. (Isaiah 59:1-2) But also, just like any other sin, this sin can be overcome. Romans 1:24-27 tells us that men being sexual with men and women with women is wrong and will result in God's wrath. These verses are unmistakable about what it is and that homosexuality is wrong in the eyes of God. Christians in the New Testament were involved in the same problem and the apostle Paul told them it was wrong. He calls it wickedness and tells them not to be deceived into believing it is ok. (I Corinthians 6:9-10)
But the great thing we can learn from their story is in verse 11 where Paul says that they overcame the sin and were washed and were freed from it. They overcame the problem and so can people who have chosen this way of life today. This can happen only when they look to God for help. God still loves these people even though many people treat them different than someone caught in any other sin and he will forgive and help them.
